Tires & Wheels: Tire Rotation
Tire rotation refers to the regular practice of switching the position of
each tire on the car.
rotation helps to equalize tread wear and is critical to gain the maximum
life from your tire investment.
Tips/Suggestions: Refer to your owner's manual for the
recommended rotation interval and pattern;
a rotation interval of 6,000 miles is recommended. The rotation pattern
varies with different makes and models, which shows the tire locations
during rotation. Some vehicles have different size tires on the front and
back or directional tires. This limits the locations that a tire may take
on the vehicle. When in doubt, check the owner's manual or consult a
professional technician at Auto Repair Technology for guidance. Tire
rotation time also offers a good opportunity to have the tires and wheels
balanced. It's another step you can take to maximize your tire investment.

What do those numbers on your tires represent?
numbers in the tire size refer to its width, aspect ratio, and
wheel diameter. "185/75R14" means the tire is 185 mm wide, has
an aspect ratio (that is, the width divided by the height) of
75%, & fits on a 14" rim.
"R" means radial tire. They're all radials nowadays. Speed
ratings are usually inserted before the "R." The most common
speed ratings are HR (good for 130mph), VR (149 mph), and ZR
(more than 149 mph).

|5 Signs You Need New Tires
Checking a car's tires for wear and tear
According to the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), tire failure causes around 11,000 car crashes each year. The NHTSA
recommend doing a quick tire inspection once a month.
Hereís What To Look For:
- Bulges, gouges or cracks
When a tire deflates, it bulges at the sides. This is a sign of low tire pressure or a slow air leak.
If you see cracks in the sidewall, gouges or anything that looks odd, bring your vehicle into Auto
Repair Technology of Brook Park Ohio and have us take a look at it.
- Tread wear
The old-school penny test is one way to check your treads: Place a penny into the tread, with
Lincolnís head pointing down. If you can still see the top of his noggin, the tread is dangerously
low. Most modern tires, however, have wear bars: bits of rubber woven into the pattern at a specific
depth. You can find the wear bars that go across the groove, and if the tread pattern is worn down to
that wear bar, you need to replace your tire.
- Tire pressure
Tires deflate at a rate of about one pound per square inch (PSI) per month. Youíre not going to wear
your tires down in a month, but you should check that you have the right inflation pressure.
Tire pressure drops in extreme cold. The challenge in summer, is excessive heat buildup in the tire.
If youíre heading out on a road trip with an under inflated tire, it will generate more heat and wear
Watch out for vibration or thumping when youíre driving. If it feels like itís coming from under the
seats, the rear tires may be out of balance. Vibration from the steering wheel could indicate
suspension issues. Anything less than a smooth ride means you should take your car to Auto Repair
Technology of Brook Park Ohio.
When itís time to replace your tires, it is recommended doing so in pairs or all four at a time for
better performance and traction and, ultimately, a safer ride.
